Free Full Downloadable Games

This blog has talked about all sorts of subjects, including who discovered silicon, who invented braille and even some video game tips. But today I am going to talk about where you can find full versions of games that you can download, legally, for free.
It’s called Abandonware
Abandonware is, hands down, the best way to legally obtain free games on the Internet. So what is Abandonware? It is basically software that is no longer sold or supported by its creators. Most of these games are classics, from the late 1990′s and early 2000′s. You can find nearly every genre of game from these sites, including adventure, sports, rpg, shooting (also called shoot em up or shooters), arcade, board, puzzle, card, racing, educational, simulation and strategy games. The most recent addition is Command and Conquer Red Alert, which is a lot of fun to play. I strongly recommend trying out some Abandonware sites if you are looking for full versions of games to legally download.

How is this legal?
As the software has been abandoned by its former owners, it becomes legal to share it on the Internet for free. The United States Supreme Court recently confirmed that people are allowed to crack copy protection on games that are no longer sold or distributed by the copyright holder. Sometimes, it is extremely difficult to find out exactly who owns the copyright to a particular game as the company who originally made it has gone bankrupt or been sold (or merged with other companies) on various occasions. However, once a company who has the rights begins to sell the game, it is no longer legal to download the game.
Remember that downloading software that is still being sold by the copyright owners is illegal. This is true whether you are downloading a version that has had its copy protection cracked or you are downloading the game using Torrents.
