How to Get Rid of Termites

I have previously written about how to get rid of bats and how to get rid of gnats so I thought I would also tell you what options you have to eliminate termites. Here are your three options (only two are recommended).

Option 1: Call a pest control specialist (recommended)

Using toxic chemicals to get rid of termites in dangerous and should be left to the professionals. It may be a big inconvenience to you, and it can cost a lot of money, but it is the best solution for eliminating termites quickly and easily. Stick with the pest control companies that have the best reputation. Usually, the better companies offer guarantees that termites will not invade your house again for a set period of time and, if termites do appear during that time, they will come and get rid of them for free.

Option 2: Use Termite Baits (recommended for some)

These are fairly new and are generally effective at getting rid of termites around the home. The best news is that you will not have to call the exterminator. They are also less toxic as the worker termites pick up the bait as food and spread it throughout the entire colony. Unfortunately, they are fairly expensive. Termite baits will send you back at least $200. They are also fairly slow working and it takes a long time until all the termites are killed. It is best to carefully consider the costs, toxicity and working time of termite baits compared to extermination to determine which is the best solution for you.

Option 3: Use Nematodes (not recommended)

An organic solution for eliminating termites is to use wormlike creatures called Nematodes. These (apparently) are harmless to both people and pets but prey on termites. There are a few websites that offer this termite solution, however the actual effectiveness of Nematodes is still unknown. I, personally, wouldn’t take the risk with this option.
