Trojan horses (trojans) are a type of malware (short for malicious software). They are often hidden in mp3 files, free games and pop-ups. Unfortunately, there is no one way to get rid of trojans, as different types of trojan horses must be removed differently. Here is a list of the best ways to eliminate trojan horses.
How to Get Rid of Trojans
- Get a good anti-virus program and do a scan. AVG Free is the best anti-virus software that you don’t have to pay for. Norton is an excellent paid option. Most (but not all) trojans can be eliminated with a good anti-virus program.
- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a great free program that picks up most trojans that AVG might miss.
- Try Spyware Remove. They have tutorials on how to get rid of many different trojan horses.
- If there is a problem with your computer, but you don’t know what type of trojan it could be, use a search engine and type in the ‘symptoms’ your computer is suffering (eg. slow load times, Google search results redirecting to other pages, can’t load certain programs). There is always some information from other people who have experienced the same problems.
- Find some forums dedicated to fighting viruses, spyware and trojans. They will usually be happy to show you how to get rid of trojans.
