List of Ways to Save Money
By: Want To Know It
Here is a list of the easiest ways to save money.
- Shop around. Look in all the catalogs and determine what you want to buy and which brand is the cheapest.
- You can earn cash back shopping online at BigCrumbs
- Stop buying things from vending machines. Always buy from supermarkets as it will save you a lot of money over time.
- Use coupons. Grab them wherever you can and actually use them. Those of you in the US can get free coupons at Cash Crate (you have to sign up first).
- Always pay your bills on time to avoid those late fees.
- Use only two thirds of the recommended amount of laundry detergent. They always tell you to use way too much.
- Budget. And stick to it!
- Reuse everything you can! Don’t throw out things like plastic bottles when you can use them again and again and again…
- Install water and energy saving devices. It might cost a bit now but it will save you in the long term. It also helps the environment.
- If you live in tropical regions like me, turn off the fans before you leave the house. This goes for anything that uses electricity in your house. Turn them off and unplug them!
- Shop around for things like insurance and credit cards and get the ones with the best deals (lowest costs and lowest interest rates).
- Wait until new products are a few months old and on sale before buying them. It is a waste of money to buy things like video games when they first come out.
- Kids love to play with simple things, so don’t bother buying lots of expensive gifts for them.
- Instead of buying expensive presents for people on their birthday, make them a cake. It is thoughtful and cheap!
- When buying expensive products like computers and furniture, always haggle with the salesperson and get the price down as much as possible. The price they advertise is never the lowest they can go. Also, look for last year’s models- they are much cheaper and the stores love getting rid of old stock.
- Stop (or at least cut down on) smoking and drinking. These habits cost thousands of dollars every year.
- Put $5 or $10 a week in a jar and use that fund to pay for dinner, movies and other things that you like to do.
- Wait until the dishwasher is completely full before turning it on.
- Try carpooling, riding your bike, taking a bus or walking (if possible) to work at least one day a week.
- Instead of going out to dinner with friends, invite them around and tell them to each bring a plate (with food on it) to share. Saves you time and money.
- Stay at home on the weekend and curl up on the couch with some popcorn watching a good DVD (James Bond or Batman).
