Why do we give Easter Eggs

During Easter, many people give Easter eggs to their friends and family. But why do we give Easter eggs? That is what this post will answer.

Why do we give Easter eggs?

In an ancient Pagan ritual, eggs were used to symbolize the rebirth of earth. Early Christians adopted this and used it to represent the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The hard shell of the egg represents the sealed Tomb where Jesus Christ’s body was buried. The breaking of the egg represents Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Traditionally, eggs were dyed red to symbolize the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross for the sins of mankind.

So, why do we give Easter eggs? We give them to tell people about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the hope that He gives the world. So the next time you eat an Easter egg, or receive one from a friend, remember the Easter story- the resurrection (the raising from the dead) of Jesus.
