How and When did Edger Allan Poe Die

Edger Allan Poe was a famous American author, poet, literacy critic who was born on January 19, 1809. He is best known for his short stories, which were always mysterious and often dealt with grim topics. He is considered to be the father of the detective fiction genre and to have played a significant part in the creation and development of the science fiction genre. Poe was the first American author to try and earn a living solely from writing and his first published pieces being a collection of small poems written under an anonymous name. When did Edger Allan Poe die?
Like many of his literary works, the cause of Edger Allan Poe’s death is also a mystery. Edger Allan Poe was found wandering the streets of Baltimore in a state of delirium on October 3, 1849. The man who assisted him, Joseph W. Walker, said that he was in great distress and in need of immediate assistance. Poe was taken to the Washington College Hospital for treatment. However, he never gained a coherent state and died in the early hours of Sunday, October 7, 1849.

What was the cause of death?
The exact cause of his death is unknown and there are many mysteries surrounding it. Edger Allan Poe’s death certificate has never been recovered and neither have his medical records. Another interesting fact was that Mr Poe was not wearing clothes that belonged to him upon his arrival at the hospital. Many theories on the cause of Edger Allan Poe’s death have been proposed. These include causes such as: delirium tremens, heart disease, epilepsy, syphilis, meningeal inflammation, cholera and rabies. Tuberculosis, or consumption as it was known, was also suggested as that is the disease that his young wife Virginia Clemm died from. Another theory is alcohol poisoning due to the increase in Poe’s drinking habits after his wife’s death. All claims are difficult to substantiate as no medical records have ever been recovered and no sources of the incident can be verified as true. The cause of his death will remain a mystery unless new evidence is found in the future.
