What is the Capital of Afghanistan
The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is a one of the least developed and most impoverished countries in the world. But what is the capital of Afghanistan? This post will answer that question and tell you a bit about the city!
What is the Capital of Afghanistan?
The capital city (and largest city) in Afghanistan is Kabul. The city is home to about 2.8 million people. It is about 3,500 years old with various empires having occupied the regions over the years. Kabul was made the capital of Afghanistan in 1776. The city is still rebuilding after the Soviet War in Afghanistan during the 1980′s and 90′s. Bomb attacks by the Taliban have hindered the rebuilding process. The Taliban captured Kabul on September 26, 1996.
Nearly all the residents of Kabul are Muslims. More and more cars are being sold in Kabul with Toyota and Nissan now having dealerships in the capital. Most of the vehicles run on LPG. Most people still ride push-bikes around the city. Schools in Kabul re-opened in 2002 after they were shut down in the 1980′s and 1990′s. Many of them were destroyed during the fighting in the Soviet War in Afghanistan. Kabul has long hot and dry summers. Winter is very cold with snow usually falling between December and March.
