What is the Capital of Angola
The Republic of Angola is an African country with one of the fastest growing economies in the world. But what is the capital of Angola? This post will answer that question.
What is the Capital of Angola?
The capital city of the Republic of Angola is Luanda. It is also the largest city (by total population) in Angola with over 5 million people. The city was founded by Portuguese explorer Paulo Dias de Novais on 25 January 1575. Sadly, the city served as the center of a large trade slave to Brazil from around 1550 to 1836. When Angola received independence from Portugal in 1975, many Portuguese left the city as refugees. Coffee, iron, diamonds, sugar, cotton and salt are the main exports from the Luanda harbor. The city has a very hot and humid climate but does not have a lot of rainfall.
Luanda has eight twin cities. They are:
- Sao Paulo, Brazil
- Salvador, Brazil
- Belo Horizonte, Brazil
- Macau, China
- Houston, United States
- Maputo, Mozambique
- Porto, Portugal
- Tahoua, Niger
