History of Bangkok
The city of Bangkok began as a small town around 1350. The town was part of the Ayutthaya Kingdom and was used as a trading port. The Ayutthaya Kingdom fell to the Burmese in 1767 and the new king established this town as the capital. The city is now known as Bangkok in English and as “Krung Thep Maha Nakhon” in the native language of Thailand. This name is shortened from the official name of the city is “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Phiman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit,” which makes it the longest place name in the world!
