The Chicago Blackhawks are a professional hockey team that compete in the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Blackhawks were founded in 1926 when they joined the NHL as a part of the expansion into the United States. The Blackhawks won their first Stanley Cup in 1933-34 and the team has achieved ultimate success on three other occasions. The team played their first home game at the Chicago Coliseum, but this arena is long gone. Let’s find out where the Blackhawks play their home games today.

Where do the Chicago Blackhawks play?
The Blackhawks play their home games at the United Center, which is sponsored by United Airlines. The arena is shared between the Blackhawks and the Chicago Bulls NBA team. The arena was built between 1992-1994 as a joint venture between the owners of the teams at a total cost of $175 million. It seats 19,717 people for hockey games, although this capacity is expanded to 22,428 with standing room. Apart from professional hockey and basketball the United Center is used for a number of other events such as concerts, wrestling and conventions.

Prior to the opening of the United Center, the Blackhawks played at the Chicago Stadium. The stadium had a capacity of approximately 17,000 for hockey games. This stadium was known as “The Madhouse on Madison” because the design of the building reverberated the sound from the fans and because of the large pipe organ played by Al Melgard. The United Center is also sometimes referred to as “The Madhouse on Madison” because it is built very close to the original location and because it has a similar appearance.
