Where do the Denver Broncos Play?
After they were established in 1960 the Broncos played the vast majority of their home games at the Mile High Stadium, which was given this name because Denver is exactly a mile above sea level. This stadium was initially built for baseball and was expanded in the hopes of being awarded a major league team. However, this didn’t eventuate and the owner of the stadium turned to professional football. The capacity at this time was about 34,000 and as a part of being included in the AFL-NFL merger it was sold to the city of Denver and expanded to 51,706. After joining the NFL the Broncos became even more popular and the stadium was sold out every week. It was upgraded over the years until it was capable of seating more than 76,000 patrons. The stadium was last used for football in December 2000.
In 2001 the Broncos moved into Invesco Field at Mile High, now known as Sports Authority Field at Mile High. This stadium also has a capacity of just over 76,000 people for football games. It was built between 1999 and 2001, when it was opened, at a total cost of just over $400 million. The stadium is also used for other sports and events.
