Where Is Lake Tahoe Located
Lake Tahoe is a large freshwater lake that covers an area of almost 500 km2 (193 sq mi.). It is a very deep lake with an average depth of about 300 m (1,000 feet) and a deepest point of 501 m (1,645 feet). This depth makes it the second deepest lake in the United States. It is also the 26th largest lake in the world in terms of volume with a total of 150.7 km3 (122,160,280 acre-foot). Where is Lake Tahoe located?
Lake Tahoe is located in the western region of the United States along the border between the states of California and Nevada. The lake is close to Carson City, which is found to the east of the lake. Reno, located to the northeast, is the largest city within close proximity to the lake. The largest settlement on the lake is called South Lake Tahoe, which is home to about 21,000 people. This city caters for a large majority of the visitors to the lake, but there are also many small towns located on the lake that serve tourists to the region.

About two-thirds of the lake is on the California side of the border and the other third is on the Nevada side. Gambling is legal in Nevada and there are many casinos on the Navada side of the lake.
