Napoleon Bonaparte was a military leader and, self crowned Emperor of the French from 1804 to 1815. He is best known for his military campaigns where he managed to win many battles when outnumbered. It is for this reason that he is considered to be one of the best military commanders in history. He is also remembered for his legal reforms, now known as the Napoleonic Code, which have influenced many countries of the world. Where was Napoleon Bonaparte born?
Napoleon was born in the family home, known as Casa Buonaparte, in the town of Ajaccio, Corsica. He was born on August 15, 1769, which was a year after the island of Corsica became a French territory. He was originally christened as Napoleone di Buonaparte and it wasn’t until he was at least 20 years of age that he changed it to Napoléon Bonaparte. His father was Carlo Buonaparte, who was a lawyer and politician, and his mother was Letizia Ramolino. Napoleon was their second eldest of the 8 children that survived infancy.
