Who founded Avon?
Avon was originally founded as the California Perfume Company in 1886. David Hall McConnell began selling books door-to-door. He quickly discovered the books did not make him enough money so he began selling perfumes that he made himself. This proved quite popular and he stopped selling books to create a perfume laboratory. He soon added other cosmetics to his catalog and the California Perfume Company was born.

It was decided that the company needed a new name for successful international expansion and, in 1939, the company changed its name to Avon Products Inc. in honor of the English town Stratford-on-Avon. Today, Avon has more than 5 million representatives and these sellers can be found in almost every country of the world.
