Who Founded Gibson Guitars
The Gibson Guitar Corporation is an iconic guitar and other musical instrument manufacturer based in Nashville, Tennessee. They produce musical instruments under a number of different brand names including; Baldwin, Steinberger, Kalamazoo and many more. Their most famous guitar is the Gibson Les Paul, which was originally designed by Ted McCarty who worked together with the popular musician Les Paul. Who Founded Gibson Guitars
Gibson Guitars was founded by Orville Gibson, who began making mandolins at his home workshop in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Orville Gibson created a completely new style of mandolin that were louder, stronger and easier to manufacture. Although he began selling his design in 1894, he didn’t patent this design until 1898. It wasn’t long before he had more orders than he was able to keep up with. Due to the growing demand he sold his design to five businessmen from Kalamazoo who formed the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co, Ltd., which produced the new style of mandolin. Many of Gibson’s most famous innovations and inventions came after the death of Orville Gibson, which occurred in 1918.

After the formation of the company the board passed a motion declaring they would only pay Orville Gibson for the actual time he worked at the company. He decided to sell his stock in the company a year after it formed and it is thought that he had very little to do with the company after this time.
