Fiddler on the Roof is a musical that opened on Broadway in 1964 at the Imperial Theater. The production was so successful that it ran for a record 3,242 performances and won 9 Tony Awards from 10 nominations. Many other productions of the musical have occurred since the first production ended and in 1971 and a film adaptation of the musical was also very successful. The story is based in Russia just after the turn of the 20th century and follows a poor Jewish man named Tevye and his family. The story is based on Tevye and his Daughters written by Sholem Aleichem and published in 1894.

Stanley Kubrick was a famous director, writer and producer who began his career working as a photographer for Look Magazine. In 1950 he decided to switch to film and he made two small documentaries. His first film was “Fear and Desire,” which he partly funded by hustling games of chess in Central Park. He began to land more work in Hollywood, but soon became infamous for his unrelenting quest for perfection. He left Hollywood for the United Kingdom after he could not agree to terms with Marlon Brando to direct “One-Eyed Jacks.” In the UK he directed the hit film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which redefined the science fiction genre. He was nominated for 3 Best Director Oscars, but didn’t ever win an Academy Award in the category. Despite this fact, he is still regarded as one of the best directors of all time. Unfortunately, he did from a heart attack in 1999 and was unable to complete the film “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” which was taken over by his good friend Stephen Spielberg. New France was the name given to an area in North America colonized by the France between the 16th and 18th centuries.
