Who Sang ‘Will You Marry Me Bill’

Wedding Bell Blues was originally written Laura Nyro in 1966. The song is about a woman who is frustrated that her boyfriend will not propose to her. While Laura Nyro was the first to release the song, the band ‘The Fifth Dimension’ are responsible for making the song famous. The band released their version of the song in 1969 and the song stayed at number one on the US pop singles chart for three straight weeks. It was also a top five hit in Canada and a top 20 hit in the United Kingdom. Lesley Gore also released a version of the song in 1969 but it sold very few copies.
