An electric generator is a piece of equipment that is designed to covert mechanical energy into electrical energy. Mechanical energy is the motion or movement of an object or machine. An electric generator does not create the electricity but simply forces the mechanical energy to flow through an external electrical circuit. Power stations use fuels such as gas, coal, oil or water and wind to drive large turbines to create mechanical energy. The steam created by burning fossil fuels is channeled to turn the turbines. Both water and wind are used directly to spin the turbines. These turbines are connected to electric generators which convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy by forcing it into a power grid. How do electric generators do this? Read on to find out.
Golf is a complex sport that requires many different skills to be successful. A top golfer needs to be able to hit the ball a long way without compromising accuracy. They must also be able to play finesse and recovery shots, and be able to putt accurately when they reach the green. Polar bears are found in some of the coldest regions on the planet. Their distribution extends throughout the Arctic Circle where they commonly encounter temperatures below -30 °C (-22 °F) during the winter months. Fortunately, polar bears are able to survive in this environment thanks to some unique characteristics. Let’s take a look at how a polar bear stays warm when the temperature drops below freezing.
Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by 3 separate bacteria from the Borrelia family. The name of the disease come from the town of Lyme, Connecticut, where many cases broke out in 1975. In 1978 Harvard professor Allen Steere discovered that the disease was transferred to humans from ticks, but it wasn’t until 1981 when Willy Burgdorfer identified the bacteria involved. Symptoms of the disease are reported to be fever, fatigue, headache, circular skin rash and depression. If it isn’t treated promptly it can cause problems with the joints, nervous system and heart. In very rare cases the disease can cause death. The disease can also cause long term effects, known as chronic Lyme disease, even in people who are treated. Let’s take a look at the treatment for this disease.

The Thermos Flask, also known as a vacuum flask, is a vessel mostly used for storage of hot or cold liquids. It uses the principle of a vacuum to keep the contents warmer or colder than the surrounding environment. It consists of two vessels and one is placed inside of the another. The small space between the vessels is evacuated of any air allowing a vacuum to form. This vacuum stops the transfer of heat between the middle container to the outer container and then into the outside environment. They are generally made of glass, plastic, metal and foam. Thermos flasks have a reflective coating that further diminishes heat transfer.
