The Utah Jazz is a professional basketball team that was founded in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz. In 1979 they relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah, and have based here since this time. They compete in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association. The Jazz began as one of the most unsuccessful teams in the league, but went on to become a very strong team in the 1990’s. When Did Alcatraz Close

Alcatraz Island, also known as The Rock, is a small island in San Francisco Bay. The island was first documented by Spanish naval officer Juan Manuel de Ayala who named the island La Isla de los Alcatraces (English: The Island of the Pelicans). The first main structure on the island was a lighthouse, which is the oldest operating lighthouse of the west coast of the United States. Not long after California became a part of the United States the island was used for military purposes, including as a military prison during the Civil War and the Spanish-American war. In 1907 it became the Western U.S. Military Prison. In 1933 control of the island was transferred to the United States Department of Justice. The next year Alcatraz Island became a federal prison for which it is best known.

When Do Spring Tides Occur

A spring tide is a large rise and fall of the tide and marks the time when the largest difference occurs between the water levels at high and low tide. During a spring tide the tidal currents are stronger and the time of “slack water” (the short period at the turn of the tide) is shorter. The opposite of a spring tide is known as a neap tide, when the difference between high and low tide are at a minimum. The time between spring tides and neap tides is about 7 days, which means that spring tides occur approximately every 14 days.

Mister Ed was a popular black-and-white television show that aired from 1961 until 1966. The series centered around a talking horse called Mister Ed and his owner Wilbur Post, who was the only person that Mister Ed would talk to. The idea for the show came from a series of short stories by author Walter R. Brooks. The show was very popular and it has been rerun many times since the last episode aired in 1966. The horse that played Mister Ed was named Bamboo Harvester and he was trained by Les Hilton. However, the voice behind the horse was never officially credited by the show.

What Caused the Hindenburg Disaster

The Hindenburg was an infamous airship that caught fire on the Thursday, May 6, 1937. The LZ 129 Hindenburg was carrying 97 people. 35 people died and a number of people were injured in the disaster. This event caused the downfall of the airship as the public lost confidence in the safety of this form of travel.
